There are three ways to adjust bids for one or more keywords/targets at a time:

  • Increase or decrease by a percent

  • Increase or decrease by a dollar amount

  • Apply a set amount

TIP: If any bids are below the recommended Smart Bid, you can update them to their Smart Bids individually or in bulk. Learn more about updating bids to their Smart Bids.

When should you adjust your bids?

Adjusting bids is a great way to optimize ROI. Here are a few example scenarios when adjusting bids can lead to bigger profits:

  • Optimizing an entire campaign by margins. When a campaign has a positive ROI (i.e., you're profiting more from the campaign than you're spending on it), increase all bids to see if you can boost ROI even more. You could start with a small increase and continue raising bids as long as your ROI continues to improve.

  • Decreasing bids for underperforming targets. Filter targets by profit to identify which ones are costing you more than they're worth, then lower their bids to see if they're more profitable at a lower cost. This is a good rule of thumb before pausing targets that don't back out.

  • Increasing bids for high-performing targets. Identify your most profitable targets and increase their bids to raise their volume. Then, see which of those targets saw an improvement in ROI and continue increasing their bids incrementally.

Adjusting Bids by a Percent or Dollar Amount

To increase or decrease bids by a percent or dollar amount, follow the directions below.

  1. Log into your RTX Platform account.

  2. Click InText or Pops at the top of the page to navigate to the appropriate Overview page.

  3. Navigate to your campaign's Keywords or Targets dashboard by clicking the campaign from the left sidebar or from the All Campaigns dashboard (If it's listed as a Top Campaign on your Overview page, you can click the campaign link from there, too).

  4. Check the box next to each keyword or target you want to update. NOTE: When selecting multiple keywords/targets one at a time, they must be on the same page. Use the dropdown below the Keywords or Targets table to display up to 500 rows per page. To select all keywords/targets on the page, check the top-most checkbox in the table header. To select all keywords/targets across all pages, check the top-most checkbox in the table, then click the link above the table to select all rows on all pages.

  5. From the "Edit" dropdown, select "Change CPC Bid" (InText) or "Change CPV Bid" (Pops).

  6. To increase or decrease bids for the selected targets by percent, select the "Percent Adjustment" option. To increase or decrease bids for the selected targets by dollar amount, select the "Dollar Adjustment" option.

  7. Choose "Increase By" or "Decrease By" from the dropdown menu, then enter the percent or dollar amount you want to increase or decrease your bids. For example, if you've selected two targets with $.01 and $.02 bids and you want to increase them 50%, you'd select "Increase By" and enter "50" into the percent field. This would change your bids to $.015 and $.03, respectively. If you want to increase your $.01 and $.02 bids by $.03, your bids would update to $.04 and $.05.

  8. If you want to apply a floor bid (when decreasing) or ceiling bid (when increasing) to your selected targets, enter a limit into the field labeled "Limit your adjusted CPC/CPV". For example, if you're increasing bids by 30%, but you don't want any bids to be set higher than $.2, you'd enter ".2" as the limit. If you're decreasing bids by 30% and don't want any bids to be set lower than $.05, you'd enter ".05" as the limit. NOTE: Any adjusted bids that would exceed your limit will be updated to the bid you've set as your limit. For example, if you're increasing bids by 30% and one of your selected bids is $.19, its adjusted bid would be $.247. However, if you set a limit of $.2, that bid would adjust to $.2 instead of $.247.

  9. Click the "Update Bids" button to apply your adjustment to the selected keywords or targets.

Applying a Set Amount as a New Bid

To apply a new bid to selected keywords or targets, follow the directions below.

  6. Select the "Set Amount" option.

  7. In the text field, enter the amount you want to bid for the selected targets. For example, if you've selected two targets with $.01 and $.02 bids and you enter $.03, a $.03 bid will be applied to both targets.

  8. Click the "Update Bids" button to apply your adjustment to the selected keywords or targets.

TIP: You can also edit bids for individual keywords and targets by clicking its bid in the CPC or CPV column of your Keywords or Targets tab and entering a new bid.
