Use Device Model Targeting to target only traffic from specific mobile phone models or exclude traffic from specific phone models.

Device Model Targeting is a Platform & Device Targets setting in your Campaign Settings.

NOTE: Device Model Targeting options only include mobile devices. If you do not have Mobile or All Device Types selected for the Device Type setting in Platform & Device Targets, your campaign will not be eligible for impressions.

Tracking performance for specific device models

Use RTX Platform reporting to see how each device model performs for your campaigns. If you're using a third-party tracker to capture performance data, you can append the {device_model} macro to your creative URLs to pass this data to your tracker.

TIP: Target users on your campaign's most profitable device models, then raise your bids to reach more high-converting customers.

NOTE: Tracking device model performance is only valuable if your campaign targets mobile traffic. If you're also targeting desktop traffic, the {device_model} macro will pass back "generic web browser" as the device model for desktop impressions.

Using Device Model Targeting for behavioral targeting

Specific device models often correlate with different age groups, incomes, and interests. For example, some studies report that iPhone users average higher household incomes than Android users. If millennials are your target audience, you can try targeting iPod users to reach younger audiences that are unable to afford full data plans.

Using Device Model Targeting to market hyper-targeted offers

Relevancy is essential for driving conversions. For example, you could sell new phones to users with outdated models, or mobile accessories that are compatible with specific types of phones, then customize your creatives for each phone you’re targeting.

Customizing your Platform & Device Targets to target or exclude traffic from specific device models

Follow the instructions below to customize Device Model Targeting in your campaign's Platform & Device Targets.

  1. Click Pops at the top of the page to navigate to the Pops Overview page.

  2. Navigate to your campaign's Targets dashboard by clicking the campaign from the Campaigns dashboard (If it's listed as a Top Campaign on your Overview page, you can click the campaign link from there, too).

  3. Click the Campaign Settings tab from any dashboard page within your campaign, then scroll down the the Platform & Device Targets section.

  4. By default, your campaign targets all traffic. To customize the device models you're targeting, select the Customradio button, or click any of the targeting fields.

  5. Select IS to target only the device models options you select, or IS NOT to target all traffic except the device models you select. Then, click the Device Models field and choose one or more device models from the dropdown, or begin typing to browse options. For example, if you'd like to target only iPhone 7 traffic, you'd select IS for the device model and select iPhone 7 as the targeting option. You can also click the X on any selection to remove it, or click the X on the righthand side of the field to clear all targeting selections. NOTE: All Device Types or Mobile must be selected as a Device Type if you are targeting or specific device models. If your Device Type Targeting does not include mobile traffic and you choose to target only specific device models, your campaign will not be eligible for traffic.

  6. Click Save Campaign at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.

TIP: RTX Platform will remember your custom Platform & Device Targets if you decide to target all traffic, then want to reapply your custom settings later. If you select Target All after you've customized and saved your Platform & Device Targets, you can always switch back to Custom to restore the Platform & Device Targets you'd previously applied.
