Conversion tracking is essential for campaign success. Typically, advertisers install conversion pixels that fire when a conversion occurs, which tells RTX Platform to track a conversion. However, instead of using a pixel, you can also upload conversions after they happen.

NOTE: Conversion data can take up to 30 minutes to appear after importing and cannot be edited or removed after being recorded. Please make sure you are not uploading conversions that have already been tracked and that the click-ID, revenue, and pixel associated with each conversion is accurately attributed.

NOTE: A conversion can only be uploaded if its click-ID is dated within the last 30 days.

Uploading conversions vs. firing a pixel

In general, installing a pixel is preferred as the most accurate and efficient way to track conversions. Below are some scenarios where you may want to upload conversions instead of firing a pixel.

Your offer doesn't support conversion pixels

Image and Javascript conversion pixels are installed on the page that loads after a conversion takes place, like a "Thank You" page or confirmation page after a purchase. Some advertisers do not have access to implement a pixel on this page, or there is no page that loads after the conversion happens. While server-to-server pixels are often used in these cases, some offers do not support pixels at all, so the best method to track conversions would be to upload them.

Tracking offline conversions

Certain offers don't lead to online conversions, so a pixel cannot fire to track them. For example, if your offer asks users to make a phone call and you want to track those calls as conversions, or if your offer collects leads and your sales team reaches out to convert them into signups via phone or in person, you can upload your conversions rather than firing a pixel.

Importing conversions that happened before installing a pixel, or before correcting a faulty pixel implementation

If you started running your campaign before installing a pixel, or if your pixel was installed incorrectly, you may have received conversions that didn't track. To make sure your data is complete, you can upload any conversions that your pixel didn't track.

Correcting conversion discrepancies

While conversion pixels are typically very reliable, some advertisers have reported receiving conversions that weren't tracked in RTX Platform. By uploading any missing conversions, you can eliminate discrepancies to make your data 100% accurate.

Tracking dynamic revenue amount per conversion without a macro

Revenue tracking is a must for optimizing ROI. In some cases, you might earn a different amount per conversion. For example, you may be promoting an e-commerce site where your revenue depends on the total cost of each sale. Some advertisers use a special macro in their pixel to dynamically populate the conversion amount, but not all offers provide these macros. In these cases, you can upload conversions and revenue instead of firing a pixel.

Track conversions on a delay to account for refunds

Depending on your offer, you might lose money when a customer refunds a purchase. However, once your pixel fires, that conversion is permanently tracked in your data and cannot be removed. Instead of firing a pixel, you may opt to wait a period of time after receiving conversions, remove any that resulted in a refund, and manually upload your remaining conversions.

Preparing your conversion upload

Uploading conversions to RTX Platform is easy, but there are a few requirements:

  1. Click-ID attribution: Every visit we send to your landing page is associated with a unique click-ID, which tracks all the data associated with that visit. As long as you can map a conversion back to its click-ID, you can manually upload it into your RTX Platform data.

  2. Pixel attribution: Even though you won't be firing a pixel, you'll need to create a pixel in RTX Platform and assign it to your campaign before uploading conversions.

  3. Proper CSV formatting: The conversion data you're uploading must be entered correctly into the template we provide and saved as a CSV file.

  4. Click-ID recency: A conversion can only be uploaded if its click-ID is dated within the last 30 days.

Finding your click-IDs

Every conversion you upload must be tied to a click-ID, the unique alphanumeric hash that identifies the visit to your landing page which resulted in the conversion. There are a few ways to find click-IDs:

  1. Third-party tracking: If you're passing data to a third-party tracker, you can append the {click_id} macro to capture click-IDs and the conversions associated with them.

  2. RTX Platform reporting: The Click ID dimension is available in Report Builder for Pops, however, you can also use the UUID dimension filtered by clicks greater than 0 to find click-IDs for any campaign type. TIP: UUIDs are generated for each impression. When the impression leads to a click, it will have a click-ID as well, and both the UUID and click-ID will share the same unique alphanumeric hash.

Follow the steps below to upload conversions to RTX Platform.

  1. Create and assign a pixel to the campaign(s) that received the conversions you're uploading by following steps 1-4 in this article. Do not install the pixel in your offer unless you want to automatically track conversions moving forward.

  2. Click the Pixels tab at the top of any page in RTX Platform to navigate to your list of global pixels.

  3. In the table on the page, locate the pixel assigned to the campaign that received the conversions you'd like to upload, then click the three dots in the Options column for that pixel.

  4. Select Upload Conversions to open the conversion upload modal.

  5. Click here to download the CSV template, or download it by clicking the link in the modal.

  6. Open the template with a CSV editor like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Replace the sample click-ID and conversion amount in the CSV with the actual click-ID and optional conversion amount associated with the first conversion you'd like to upload. If you do not want to associate revenue with the conversion, leave the conversion amount blank.

  7. Enter any other click-IDs you'd like to upload, and conversion amount if desired. RTX Platform will automatically map each click-ID to the proper campaign and attribute all other associated data.
NOTE: You may enter conversion data for multiple campaigns as long as each campaign is assigned the same pixel that you're uploading into.
NOTE: Conversion data can take up to 30 minutes to appear after importing and cannot be edited or removed after being recorded. Please make sure you are not uploading conversions that have already been tracked and that the click-ID, revenue, and pixel associated with each conversion is accurately attributed.

  8. Save your CSV and return to the conversion upload modal. Click the Choose File button, select your CSV, then click Upload Conversions.
