Apply a Default Bid to new keywords you add to your campaign, or adjust your Default Bid to bulk update existing keywords without custom bids.
What is a Default Bid?
Each keyword you add to your campaign has a bid, which determines how much you pay for a click. When you customize your Campaign Settings, you're prompted to enter a Default Bid, which is automatically applied to new keywords you add to your campaign. You can apply custom bids to individual keywords to granularly optimize ROI based on each keyword's unique performance.
What happens when I customize my campaign's Default Bid?
When you customize your Default Bid, you're specifying the bid that will automatically be placed on any new keywords you add to your campaign.
If your campaign already has keywords with Default Bids applied and you change the Default Bid in your Campaign Settings, those keywords will update to the new Default Bid. This is a quick and easy way to adjust bids in bulk for keywords that do not have custom bids.
How can I tell which keywords have Default Bids and which have custom bids?
On the Keywords tab within a campaign, the CPC column shows each keyword's bid. In this column, Default Bids are gray and custom bids are blue.
How can I apply my Default Bid to a keyword after I've customized its bid?
To remove a keyword's custom bid and re-apply the Default Bid, navigate the the Keywords tab within your campaign, then click the keyword's bid amount in the CPC column to open the bid editor. Clear the bid amount by either erasing it or clicking the gray "X" in the bid amount field. When the field is empty, click the blue checkbox to apply the Default Bid.
How can I customize my campaign's Default Bid?
When you create a new campaign, you'll see a Default Bid setting below your Geographic Targets where you can enter your Default Bid. You can customize an existing campaign's Default Bid anytime in its Campaign Settings.
